Harry Potter and the Internet: A Short Story

On one rainy day, when the dark clouds covered the entire sky, a boy was laying on his bed. His name was Harry Potter. He was famous in the Wizarding World. Even the World Wide Web.

As Harry was lying on his bed, he could hear a bird outside his window. As he walked over to the window, he realized that the bird was an owl. Moreover, his owl whose name is Hedwig. As Hedwig came through the window, Harry could see a letter tied to Hedwig’s foot.

When Hedwig landed on the bed, Harry took the letter off Hedwig, unraveled it, and began to read:

Dear Harry,

Did you ever go on this In-ter-net thing? My dad got a computer for his services at the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts job. When he booted it up, we immediately saw a website called Veritaserum! Why would someone want to use that potion? Anyway, it tells about our adventures in our fourth year! Do you think other wizards know about this website? I think you should check this out yourself! If you can get on Dudley’s computer, the address you type in is www.veritaserum.com. See you at Hogwarts!

From, Ron Weasley.

Was Ron telling him the truth? Was there really a website about his adventures at Hogwarts? Of course, Harry had to find out, so he went into Dudley’s room. Since Dudley, Petunia, and Vernon were out of the house, he had no trouble entering Dudley’s room.

Upon entering, he sat down near the computer. He clicked on the Internet icon and typed in www.veritaserum.com. He was instantly on the website.

‘Ron was right,’ he told himself, ‘this website does tell of the adventures we had!’

He saw that an actor named Daniel Radcliffe was portraying himself in the movies.

‘That is preposterous! I thought I was an only child!’

He then clicked on the prophecies section. He noticed that people were predicting his sixth year at Hogwarts.

‘Wait a minute! How do people know of Hogwarts! Are these people wizards and witches?’ he thought again.

He then clicked on the VTM OnAir section of the website. He saw pictures of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint impersonating Hermione, Ron, and himself. He also saw a video about his fourth year at Hogwarts.

‘Was someone spying on me?’ thought Harry.

Harry decided not to look any further into this website. He seemed too shocked at the articles found on this web-site thing. Before he logged off the internet, he saw a picture of Cho Chang.

‘Cho Chang!?’ thought Harry, ‘She goes on this in-ter-net thing!’

Harry thought of Cho right at that moment. Did she have Muggle parents? His mind went crazy for a while. Well, until the Dursley’s came home.

Slam. The doors to the house sprang open with a thud. Dudley ran up the stairs and into his room. Unfortunately, Harry was still in the room.

“What were you doing in Dudley’s room!” exclaimed Mr. Dursley, with his wife standing right next to him. Dudley was upstairs, playing on his computer.

“I… I…” Harry said, before Mr. Dursley interrupted.

“We specifically told you NOT to go near his computer! Why would you disobey us!?” screamed Mr. Dursley, of whom was starting to spit on Harry.

“I… I was just wondering what this in-ter-net thing was,” explained Harry, as he wiped the spit off his face.

“Don’t you lie to me, boy!” said Mr. Dursley, yet again, “We know you were jinxing it with your magic wand! And you probably forgot that you aren’t allowed to do magic outside school!”

“No, I was not…” Harry said, before Dudley ran down the stairs in disgust. It seemed as though an earthquake had struck right as Dudley was coming down the stairs.

“Mummy, my computer doesn’t work!” screamed Dudley, as both Mr. and Mrs. Dursley stared at Harry with evil eyes.

“Upstairs, boy! And don’t you even think about coming down until I say so, right?” screamed Mr. Dursley, pointed at Harry with his large fingers.

“But…” said Harry.

“Now, boy!” screamed Mr. Dursley, who seemed to raise his voice even louder.

So, as Harry was sitting there, he presumed to be thinking of Sirius. He missed him so much that it felt like a tore in his heart after his death. He continued to imagine Sirius and himself in a beautiful house on the country. But this dream was far away now. Never to be lived.

As he lay on his bed, he decided to send a reply to Ron about the in-ter-net thing. And about how he is being locked up in his room for who knows when. He began to write:

Dear Ron,

I went on this web-site thing and it was very creepy! How do people know all about us!? Anyway, after I was done, Dudley spotted me on his computer and I am currently locked up in my room for who knows when! The Dursley’s think I jinxed Dudley’s computer but I didn’t! Anyway, I hope to see you at Hogwarts this year!

From, Harry Potter

After he wrote the letter, he attached it to Hedwig and let her fly out the window. He fell fast asleep as soon as Hedwig left his sight.
