Chapter 23: The Destination

Harry was falling, as was Draco. Harry glanced upwards: Malfoy was too far away. He couldn't reach him. So, Harry closed his eyes, anticipating the worst.

He was inches away from hitting the ground when he felt someone grab his robes, quite roughly, from above. The next moment, he was soaring through the air. He looked up: it was Malfoy. Determination seemed etched on his face. Harry shouted, “Where is my broomstick?”

Malfoy glared at him and replied, “Broken!”

A dreaded chill filled Harry’s lungs. How could he face Ron with his broken broomstick? Quite suddenly, Malfoy said, “Hold on! I’m going to go underneath the bridge! Duck!”

Harry ducked, just in time to avoid the huge pillar. He missed it by inches.

“I have an idea!” Malfoy cried, “But it could be dangerous!”

“What’s plan?” asked Harry, quickly.

“Get up on my broom, and I'll try to Apparate myself to the destination. But it’s very tricky!”

Harry yelled, “Let’s just do it.”

Malfoy nodded, gesturing Harry to get up on his broom. After a great deal of effort, Harry got on Malfoy’s broom. However, the broom stick began to wobble, due to the overall weight, and started descending rapidly.

Harry roared, “Quick! Apparate!”

Just as Harry thought Draco was not going to make it, he heard a distant crack and knew that Malfoy had successfully Apparated.

When Harry was sure it was safe enough, he tightened the hold of the broomstick, increasing the speed. It was a great feeling: moving forward freely. Draco’s broom, the Nimbus Two-Thousand and One, was the second fastest to the Firebolt. Suddenly, something struck him.

“This is just great! Draco didn't tell me where to go!” said Harry, frustrated.

However, there was a change of view, and Harry found himself in a different place. Someone was walking along a corridor, a very familiar one. The footsteps echoed sharply around the dark corridor as he approached his destination.

As Harry looked up, he gasped. In big golden letters, he saw The Department of Mysteries etched over a huge entrance gate. As the person looked back, Harry was shocked.

“Panky… Wanky Potter! I’ve been waiting for you,” hummed Jeremy Snape, in a dangerous voice.
