Chapter Five

Michelle woke up very terrified of the night before even though she knew why she snuck out in the first place. When she got to school, she began to repeat the day before in her classes.

“Did you get the photograph?” asked Heather, as they were eating lunch.

“Yep, here it is,” said Michelle, as she handed Heather a piece of paper.

“This is a coupon for a six-pack of Coca-Cola©! Did you really take the picture of the ghost?” asked Heather, again.

“I did take the picture,” replied Michelle.

“Then where is it?” said Shannon.

“I don’t know. I thought I put it into my book bag this morning, but I guess I left it at home. Maybe you can come to my house after school and I will show it to you,” replied Michelle.

“No, I know your lying, and I will have to tell everybody about your so called lie!” exclaimed Heather, as she started to walk to the newspaper editing room.

“Please, Heather, I am telling the truth! Give me another chance!” pleaded Michelle.

“I am sorry, Michelle, but you always lie to me, which is what I am going to call the heading for my story: Michelle is a Liar!” said Heather.

“Fine, then this friendship is over!” replied Michelle.

“Fine with me, too, so I would like my clothes back, please!” said Heather.

“Okay, and can I have my necklace back, please?” asked Michelle.

“Here, you can have it back because it can barely fit around me, anyway!” answered Heather.

Heather entered the newspaper editing room and began to write her story for the newspaper. Michelle walked back to the lunch table and began to cry.

“Why are you crying?” asked Shannon.

“Because I lost one of my best friends over one lie that is actually true!” answered Michelle.

“Well, I believe you,” said Shannon, “Can I come over your house and see the picture?”

“Yeah, maybe you can come over my house tonight, as a sleepover. We could find the ghost in the clubhouse at night!” replied Michelle, as she stopped crying.
