Chapter 18: The Welsing

“Show me what?” asked Harry.

Ron, getting up, moved towards a bookshelf. He picked up a thick, dusty book and gave it to Harry.

“Well,” began Ron, “This book contains information about all kinds of evil objects. Hermione told me to keep it hidden after last year’s adventure. The Green Snitch might be in there.”

Harry, opening it, scanned the pages quite roughly. But it didn't take him a long time to find it: he saw a picture of a gleaming sphere-shaped emerald that was noted “the Green Snitch”.

Harry read, “The Green Snitch, more commonly known as the Welsing, is a powerful, evil, and most dangerous object that a Wizard could come across. In the past, a lot of evil Wizards have tried to procure it, thinking that it would bring them glory. But they often tend to under-estimate the power of the Green Snitch.

“The Green Snitch is a emerald-colored replica of the Golden Snitch and can only be captured if both the Chosen Seeker and the Challenger attempt to acquire it. The unique aspect is that when the Challenger finds the Chosen Seeker, both have to attempt capture of the Snitch, even if one of the two is reluctant.

“The Green Snitch, also known as the Welsing (as mentioned above), can only be sighted in Blue light, which, likewise, is only visible through Welsing Goggles (refer to page 149 for more information about the usage of the Welsing goggles). The Welsing, which is hypothesized at speeds six times faster than the Golden Snitch, requires great skill and agility of the Seeker and the Challenger to get hold of it. Throughout history, Wizards have killed each in order to capture the it. Some Wizard experts have concluded that in order to conquer the Green Snitch, either the Seeker or the Challenger must be killed in the attempt. Though it is quite powerful, it can be fatal to the one who misuses it’s magic.”

Harry closed the book, threw it on the bed, and sat in deep thought. Suddenly, something struck in his mind, “Hey! Jeremy was the one who gave me the Welsing goggles! I wonder if he knows I’m this ‘Chosen Seeker’.”
