Getting some Headspace
Meditation has always been a struggle in my life. Quieting the mind is a skill that my anxious mind could not master. But having the outlet of a therapist and the medicine from a psychiatrist has allowed my mind to break free of tensions; allowing a change to explore the power of meditation.
As a tech nerd, I definitely appreciate the well-designed app, Headspace, a meditation and mindfulness app that has been around since 2012. Their growing library of guided meditation practices is perfect for any situation that is causing stress or despair with someone.
I have completed two of their courses, which in all honesty, is just a way to instill a repetition and mindful habit. Fear of the Future, led by Eve Lewis Prieto, is one of the courses to learn and practice approaching worries in a more constructive way, appreciating the present moment. As well as learn some skillful ways to move forward with less stress. It has allowed me to recognize uncertainty in my mind and bring it back to the present.
The other course I completed was Dealing with Regret, led by Andy Puddicombe. He is the co-founder of Headspace and his course allowed me to come to terms, in my own mind, the difficult feelings of regret and lesson the sting by learning to let go of the past.
Meditation, as I have learned, is a skill; bridging more neural connections and allow the brain’s stress response to heal. As my therapist has shown me, reducing the space between stressful events and stressful feelings is imperative to more mindful living.
One of the wonderfully serendipitous aspects of the app is the daily checklist of activities. Each day brings a new visual guide for a deep breathing exercise, a short 5 to 10-minute video to shine a light on the beauty of the world, and a new guided meditation session. As well as an afternoon lift activity, whether a mindful exercise routine or psychologically effective background focus music.
Near the evening, it offers a variety of different sleep meditations or soothing bedtime stories, spoken by very good narration to instill a sense of quiet and peace.
If you want a 30-day trial, I’ll share the link below. Highly recommended giving it a try and find inner peace.
